GMAT: Graduate Management Admission Test for MS in Canada
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a general prerequisite for joining Business Schools. This exam is generally written for admission to top MBA programs in Canada, but a good score in GMAT can also add value to your application for post-graduation programs as well.

About the Exam
- GMAT is a standardized test examining the capacity of candidates applying for graduate studies in business schools.
- It is a standard criterion for entry to Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs and Master's in Management (MIM) courses.
- GMAT scores are valued in the United States of America, India, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and many other countries.
Before you Start
- Check the University prerequisites if GMAT is required.
- The exam is marked out of 800 points.
- Note down the minimum test score required to apply to your target university
- It is a Computer-Adaptive Test (CAT).

GMAT Registration
- ONLINE REGISTRATIONThe exam registration can be done entirely online. You need to create an account first and log into MBA.com. Then you have to complete the remaining profile with essential details.

GMAT Exam Pattern
The exam has four sections, briefly described below :

Thus, the entire exam goes on for at least 3 hours 30 mins (along with the initial procedures).
After You Register
- An e-mail confirming your appointment will be sent.
- This appointment letter has to be carried on the day of your appointment.
- Check if any different test venues have been mentioned, or if there is any change in the test timings and building.
On Test Day
- Carry your ID proof containing the information matching to the ones entered during the GMAT Registration. We suggest you carry your Passport as valid proof.
- Arrive at least 40 mins before the Exam. If you arrive late to the test venue, you may not be allowed.
- Once you reach, your biometrics will be taken by the Test Centre Staff.
- You will be instructed to keep all the personal items in a separate room/an allotted locker.
- Each time you enter and leave the exam hall, you will be escorted by a staff member and your fingerprints will be scanned; this will be proof of your entry and exit.
- There will be two breaks during the exam.
- The exam will be for about 3.5 hours. We suggest that you carry water and light snacks.
Test Results
- The GMAT scores you on four different parts :
- The Analytical Writing Assessment Section( between 0.0-6.0),
- The Integrated Reasoning Section ( between1-8),
- The Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning Section (Separate) (between 0-60),
- The Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning Section (Cummulative), (between 200-800).
- As soon as you finish the exam, you can see your unofficial GMAT Scores. You will be given 2 minutes to either accept this score (which will later be submitted to your target schools) or to decline it. If you do not make a decision within 2 minutes, it will automatically get cancelled.
- Your GMAT scores are valid for 5 years.
Useful Tips
- Have a healthy, big breakfast on the morning of your exam.
- For the Integrated Reasoning part, you will have an IR on-screen Calculator. However, for the Quantitative Reasoning section, you will not be provided with any calculator.
- Once you submit an answer, you cannot go back. So be wise in deciding which answers should you guess, and which ones are to be skipped. You should not waste time on such decisions.
- Take as many practice exams as you possibly can.
- Top Business Schools require the average GMAT scores to be between 712-730.
- This exam can be taken at any time in the year.
